2023 review

To recap my year 2023, I want to list a few personal achievements and highlights for posterity and express my gratitude to all who accompanied me on this journey.

The most important personal highlight was that I married my wife. Family has become the most important part of my life.

From a sports perspective, I ran 1700km, 19% less than last year's 2099km, which I want to blame on a broader range of sports activities like skiing, swimming, and biking. My longest bike tour was 120km, a personal highlight. I completed my second marathon (Zurich Marathon) and my first triathlon (in Gruyere), both exciting events that I could share with my friends.

Regarding learning, I read 23 books (including 8 audiobooks) with running and endurance sports being a major theme. A notable read was "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougal, which shows different philosophies behind running and explains the effect of running on the human body. I posted 16 blog posts, up from 7 in 2022, sharing insights and mental models with friends. I wrote 98 pages (41k words) in my personal journal, compared to 102 last year, reflecting my self-reflection time. Writing structures my thoughts and helps calibrate my thinking this is why I am always happy when I dedicated a certain amount of word’s towards this.

Regarding trips and experiences, my wife and I visited Lencois Maranhense in Brazil, toured seven cities in northern Italy in seven days, and traveled to Burgundy, France.

Overall, I am very happy where I am right now and how I am spending my time in general. I am very grateful for the friends we made and for the environment that I am in. In that spirit, I do not want to take any crazy goals in 2024 expect for focusing even more on the things that are most important to me.
